Fleet Management System
Our Fleet Management System was originally developed by Fifoot Holdings Ltd, this company was taken over by SMF Property Ltd in May 2007 and with it the Fleet Management System.
The FMS engine is a cost effective Fleet Management System that provides fleet reporting data for server, desktop and laptop systems. FMS works with LAN based clients and mobile client systems, such as home workers, as the client agent collates and transmits the data. FMS works well with client machines which are not connected to the corporate network and will use any internet visible connection to transmit data on their status.
Data Collection can be Hardware, Software or bespoke settings, this data can then be used for determining licensing requirements, hardware upgrade costs or to ensure security compliance
FMS consists of three components.
Client Agent: This resides on the client machine and generates reports containing system information. The client agent encrypts and transmits these reports based on a set of triggers that ensure communication is possible.
Drop Box: This is can be a DFS share, an FTP server or even an E-mail account. Messages are transmitted by the client and remain encrypted until collection.
Application/Database server: This is a server which is running a Microsoft SQL database, this database holds the report information. At set intervals the contents of the drop box are collated by a service and imported into the database giving a near real time view of the fleet status. Reports can be run against the FMS database for a variety of uses. In some cases automated processes can be used to trigger events based on the status of data fields. (Note a Microsoft Windows 2003 Server and Microsoft SQL license will be required and are not included in product costs)
FMS provides a cost effective mechanism to generate near real time fleet data in a flexible operating environment. Client machines do not have to be connected to a corporate network for FMS to operate. The client agent transmits reports independently of the database engine. The client transmits regular encrypted reports to a drop box server. These reports are then collected and added to the SQL reporting engine.
FMS is intended to operate as a fleet reporting engine and not as a final product. Customers can either buy a development license, encapsulate the client agent in their own branding and custom code or they can engage SMF Property Ltd who will perform the development work on their behalf. In this case we will work to ascertain your requirements and produce a dedicated client agent and database.
